GM Handcrafted Coils - DragonScale Coils Medium

DragonScale is one of GM's hand-built coil types, supplied two to a container in the medium size and intended for rebuildable atomisers. The name describes the finish: the outer wrap is worked so the coil surface breaks up into overlapping scales rather than a smooth spiral, which increases the area in contact with the wick. The practical effect is a fuller, denser flavour than a plain round-wire build gives, with a slightly longer ramp-up before the coil reaches temperature.

This medium build measures 3.0mm inside diameter with 5 wraps, using a 2x26g Nichrome 80 core and a 38g Nichrome 80 outer wrap. Because the core is Nichrome rather than Kanthal it heats faster than the equivalent Kanthal coil, which partly offsets the ramp-up cost of a complex wrap; it also means it is not suitable for temperature control in nickel or stainless modes. Fitted as a dual-coil build it reads around 0.15 ohms, or 0.30 ohms as a single, so this is a direct-lung build for a capable regulated mod or a well-understood mechanical setup. Always check the resistance on a reader before firing.
