Katana Solo - Lychee Saltnic

Lychee sits at the more unusual end of Katana's Solo range, the single-flavour counterpart to the multi-fruit Fusion line. It is a floral, perfumed fruit rather than a sweet or a sharp one, and it arrives here uncut by ice or by a second fruit. The bottle is 30ml of nicotine salt, in 20mg and 50mg.

Lychee is worth knowing something about before you commit thirty millilitres to it. The note is delicate and slightly floral, closer to rosewater than to a candied fruit, and far subtler than the mango and berry liquids that dominate the salt category. Two things follow from that. The first is that it rewards a cooler, lower-power setup: pushed hard, a floral note turns soapy, so a 1.0ohm or 1.2ohm pod at modest power will show it better than a wide-open one. The second is that it does not fatigue the palate the way a heavy sweet fruit does, which makes it an unusually good candidate for genuine all-day use despite being a single flavour — the usual objection to solo liquids does not really apply here. On strength, 50mg is aimed at somebody recently off cigarettes who needs the nicotine to land firmly, while 20mg suits an established vaper or a pod at the more powerful end of the range. Both belong in a mouth-to-lung device rather than a sub-ohm tank, where a salt at these concentrations would deliver far more nicotine than intended.
