Katana Solo - Grape Saltnic

The Solo line is Katana's single-flavour range, set against the multi-fruit Fusion blends, and Grape is the most straightforward thing in it: a sweet, ripe grape with nothing layered over it. It is a nicotine salt in a 30ml bottle, in 20mg and 50mg strengths.

Single-flavour liquids behave differently from blends, and grape in particular deserves a word. It is one of the more polarising flavourings in vaping, because the compound almost every manufacturer uses lands closer to grape confectionery than to the fruit — a boiled sweet rather than something off the vine. If that is what you are after, this delivers it cleanly, with no cooling agent muddying it. If you were expecting fresh grape, it will not be that, and a berry blend would serve you better. The other consequence of a single note is palate fatigue: one flavour repeating on every draw dulls faster than a blend does, so a solo liquid usually works best as one of two bottles you rotate rather than as a sole all-day choice. On strength, the salt formulation smooths the throat hit enough to make 50mg workable, but that concentration is meant for somebody recently off cigarettes using a tight, high-resistance pod. 20mg is the sensible choice for an established vaper, or for a pod at the more powerful end of the category. Either strength belongs in a mouth-to-lung device around 0.8ohm or above, never a sub-ohm tank. Grape is at least relatively clean on coils, carrying none of the sweetener load a dessert or custard liquid brings with it.
