Kidney Puncher Kanthal A-1 100ft Spool

Kanthal A-1 is the default resistance wire for wattage-mode coil building, and this is Kidney Puncher's US-milled version on a 100ft spool. It is an iron-chromium-aluminium alloy, roughly 70% iron with about 22% chromium and 5.8% aluminium, plus small amounts of carbon, silicon and manganese. That composition is what gives Kanthal its two useful habits: it holds its shape when you compress a coil, and its resistance barely changes as it heats.

The stable resistance is the reason it is not used for temperature control, which needs a wire whose resistance rises predictably with heat. For everything else it is the easiest wire to learn on, because a coil built from it stays where you put it and fires the same way on the hundredth pull as on the first. The 100ft spool is the sensible size if you build regularly or run dual-coil setups; the 30ft spool covers occasional rebuilds. Choose the gauge to suit the build, with the thicker 26GA giving a lower resistance per wrap and a slower ramp than 28GA.
