Cotton Bacon V.2

Cotton Bacon V.2 is the second-generation version of the wicking cotton, made with larger fibres aimed specifically at low-ohm builds. It arrives ready to use, with no boiling or soaking required, and comes in a resealable bag holding ten strips.

The larger fibre structure is the point of the V.2 revision. A low-ohm coil heats quickly and pulls liquid through at a rate that a fine, densely packed wick cannot always keep up with, which is what produces the thin, scorched note on the third or fourth draw of a chain. A coarser fibre moves juice faster and is more forgiving if you have wicked slightly on the tight side. The trade-off is that it wants a little more care at the threading stage, since the strands separate more readily than a dense cotton does.

The resealable bag matters more than it sounds: cotton is absorbent and will pick up whatever is in the air around it, so a bag that closes properly keeps the remaining strips clean between builds. Ten strips is enough for a long stretch of rewicking for most people, which makes it a sensible thing to keep in the kit rather than buying in ones and twos. If you are running standard resistance rather than low-ohm builds, the original formulation may suit you better.
